On Saturday 9th, 2017, the New Mexico State Aggies came to the Dreamstyle arena to face their rival, the Lobos. It was close throughout the game as NMSU came back to win in a dramatic fashion. The Aggies had a 23-16 point lead midway through the first half, but the Lobos responded scoring 8 points in 44 seconds to take the lead. Halfway through the second half the Lobos had a 10 point lead off of fast break points but failed to make another basket the rest of the game. It was a sloppy game as both teams couldn't hit, shooting only 45% from the field and more than 15 turnovers on both teams. The lobos went 0-8 from the field in 6 ½ minutes which cost them the win."I think you could sense, I guess our inexperience. That team knows how to win those games and had the experience to do it. And we're still trying to figure that out.” Lobos head coach Paul Weir said in the post game press conference.
