Early April 14th, the United States, France, and the United Kingdom carried out an airstrike against several locations in Syria. Missiles struck in Aleppo, Damascus, and Homs. The attacks were administered because of alleged chemical assaults in Syria. The targets struck are reportedly “A scientific research facility in Damascus allegedly connected to the production of chemical and biological weapons, a chemical weapons storage facility west of Homs, and a command post storing chemical weapons equipment also near Homs”, according to the Pentagon.
This is not the first time Syria has been attacked, and it certainly won’t be the last. From inside and out Syria has been assaulted repeatedly since 1986. According to an an Aljazeera article, a fishing port in Tartus was attacked in 1986, and attacks escalated from there. Syria is one of the most attacked countries in the world- proceeded only by Iraq, Afghanistan and Nigeria. Syria is one of the countries most impacted by terrorism, and also severely affected by inside attacks. There is almost constantly conflict happening inside Syria, with Damascus, Homs, Aleppo and Kobane being high areas of distress- 3 of which were afflicted in the April attack.
It is unknown what the future will bring to Syria. It’s likely, though, that this attack is only one of many more to come.
