The Sandia Football team’s last two games against Volcano Vista High School and Clovis High School did not go the way of the Matadors. Both opposing teams walked away with massive victories. While in both games the Matadors demonstrated strong effort in the first quarter, the could only rise as the fans looked on helplessly from the sidelines. After multiple position changes, the Matadors could not find an answer. This losing trend is out of place if you look at the Matador’s season. In the coming games, the Matadors are sure to come away with a win. The team has also been plagued with many serious injuries forcing positions to be shifted and players to play a role they are not used too. Players are not discouraged though. Talking to starting running back Leshawn James, he said, “Well push through any obstacle that comes are way.” The main takeaway from these two games is a surprisingly positive one. The Matadors are not giving up. Despite the two stinging losses, they’re not deterred, and they are ready to get on the field to break the trend. They also want to keep up the crowd attendance. When they lose, the student turnout at the games tends to drop, and that really affects the atmosphere of the games. Make sure to go out and support the Matadors in all of the upcoming games and hopefully they will have a strong finish to their season.
